Palm Tran Connection, rocked by reports of doctored on-time figures, has a new interim director.
Heather Pekar started June 7, according to a June 8 note from Palm Tran to county commissioners which was obtained by the Palm Beach Post.
Pekar previously was Vice President for Information Technology for a Missouri-based medical transportation management firm. She was graduated from Texas A&M University.
On May 26, Palm Tran Director Clinton Forbes overhauled the structure of the Palm Beach County public bus system, demoting Palm Tran Connection Director Ron Jones and accepting the resignation of Palm Tran Deputy Director, and former director, Chuck Cohen.
Forbes acted the day he released a summary by a David Rishel, a consultant he’d hired following a 103-page March 31 study by the Palm Beach County Office of Inspector General that alleged managers altered, or directed dispatchers to alter, between 21,000 and 46,000 on-time reports at the Connection, which provides call-ahead bus service for the elderly, disabled and ill.
